Prior to their fateful meeting in April, Joe Joyce had his career mapped out. He was the WBO interim heavyweight champion and was in line to be that organization’s mandatory challenger for Oleksandr Usyk. At the same time, he was mid-stream on negotiations for an all-British title match with Tyson Fury.
Zhang took the initiative in the first round – but both fighters were cagey in the opening round before the Chinese heavyweight backed the American up and worked his body in round two, with Wilder having limited success with single shots. The highlight of the third round saw Zhang land a right hook, which forced “The Bronze Bomber” to take evasive action. Wilder looked shot shy as he continued to paw with the jab and not much else of substance, and this carried on into round four, with both fighters failing to push the action.

Wilder is settling in this round a little better. He’s staying in the middle more and has thrown a few right hands. Still mostly lead hand shoving, but this is better. UGLY jab from Wilder and Zhang lands a left to the body. Wilder ducks a left from Zhang. Credit where due, his defense has been pretty good. But it’s all he’s showing.
I have just started sparring at a gym and i have only been training for 2 months. My coach says im way farther than most beginners but i still have a lot to work on. One of the things is being able to punch through my target and my whole misunderstanding of power box in bing.com my combination punches. The next thing is, should i be utilizing power in every punch for a combination or should i use it for the one punch i feel i can tag him with?.
The rubber match ended when Wilder suffered his second defeat at the hands of Fury, this time getting knocked out in round 11. Wilder came back to win once by knockout in 2022 before suffering his third career defeat to Joseph Parker in December of last year.
On his right forearm, Tyson has a dragon tattoo which is easily the most impressive of all his artwork. This is the one tattoo there is little information on, with nobody being sure of the tattoo artist or the actual meaning behind the tattoo. Tyson himself hasn’t discussed the ink but as The Sun detailed, “In Chinese culture, the dragon represents strength, wisdom, and freedom,” so it wouldn’t be a stretch to think Tyson knows this and wanted the tattoo to represent these things. Or maybe he just really likes dragons? We will never know until he comments on the artwork.
For the first three years of his professional career, there were lofty expectations that Daniel Dubois could be the heir apparent to Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua in the U.K. And then he ran into “The Juggernaut” — Joe Joyce.
